OWA October Meeting
Wednesday October 12, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Flying Pie Pizza 7804 SE Stark Street Portland, OR 97215 Google Map
- Review of first aid kit contents, what should you add to cover common issues and what you might consider adding to make sure that you have some ability to deal with more serious emergencies.
- Review of the why/when/how of scouting rapids. Scouting rapids is something that we have all done but having a plan is sometimes as important as the scout itself. This review is so that new members can get an understanding of what a veteran boater is looking at and so that veteran boaters can refresh some of the reasons this is important.
- Introduction of a new boat repair product by Vic LeGall, www.GoodWaterBoatWorks.com. This new product and emergency repair kit is designed to get you back on the river quickly and back to your car. This type of repair has been designed to save you time and money by reducing the labor required to permanently fix a boat once you have it at home or in a shop. Vic will take other boat repair questions and will have these repair kits available for sale at the October meeting
- Introduction of new fire pan and table products by Douglas Halstead . Douglas has several new products available including fire pans that fit under your cooler. He will take questions on other products and design features of the ones he demos.
Bruce Ripley is an avid whitewater boater and fisherman and is currently the vice-president of Oregon Whitewater. Bruce has been boating for 20 years but has been an avid adventurer since childhood. Having been on several “survivor” style trips Bruce has learned that the old adage that “not preparing for an emergency is preparing to fail” is exactly on the mark. Bruce has been working with other OWA members to enhance our focus on safety awareness and training and has worked with local vendors to provide materials and classes to the membership.
Brent Davis is a founding member and past president of OWA and a 16 year whitewater boating veteran in rafts, cat boats, and IKs. In the last few years Brent has been exploring his personal limits in the sport on some of the regions Class IV and V rivers. Brent has trip leader and lead boat experience on several wilderness trips where no one in the group is familiar with the river and has recently participated in a few more exploratory style runs where there's really not much knowledge in the group about what to expect
Vic LeGall is an active OWA member and the owner of GoodWater Boatworks. Vic specializes in major and minor inflatable boat repair as well as any making any customizations to your inflatable including adding logos and hardware. Vic is a longtime member of the whitewater community and has guided and boated many of the rivers in the western US. This long history gives Vic a unique perspective on boat repair and customization
Doug Halstead Halstead leads a small fabrication company located in the Estacada area. Phantom Firepan, while a new company, is comprised of members who have been manufacturing and modifying whitewater boating supplies for several years. We are here to introduce a new line of products.
