Trip Information: We will be floating from Rome to Birch Creek through 55 miles of stunning scenery. It is extremely remote, very persnickety about river levels and because of its elevation and location weather can be very challenging and that makes this river just that more interesting. The payoff for making this adventure is seeing some of the most interesting canyons and geology in the entire Northwest. This same geology can and does make for a river to be taken very seriously. The combination of this geology, the remoteness of the river and the rapidly changing river levels makes this river a challenge for boaters. We have set the minimum level that we want to go at 1500+ cfs. If the level were likely to go below the 1,500 cfs level, most likely we would think about doing the Hells Canyon part of the Snake or possibly loaf down the John Day River.
