Trip information:  Experience the beautiful fall colors of the central Willamette Valley on this intermediate skilled South Santiam River trip that starts below Foster Dam in Sweet Home. Starting in October, both Green Peter Reservoir and Foster Dam Reservoir will start their reservoir drawdowns for the Winter season, which means the flows in the Lower South Santiam River increase in flows between 1,200 and 1,500 cfs. The 14-mile float will be from Foster Dam (Sweet Home) to Waterloo Park.  It should be High Indian Summer and a great time for a day float on the South Santiam River. We'll put in near Foster Dam, run for a couple of hours, have lunch and then finish up and take out at Waterloo Park, a total of just over 14 miles. River float time can range anywhere from four to five hours. There are plenty of riffles and play spots, and only a couple of class two rapids in the first 3 miles of the float. Note: Exploratory Trip! This is also the trip leaders first time down this particular stretch of the South Santiam River.
