Greetings fellow club members,
Seasonal changes have arrived once again in the northwest with the brilliantly sunny fall weather becoming more distant in the rear view mirror. Autumn is a season that expresses the most diversity and change. Early morning crispness in the air, the colorful and dazzling display of gold and crimson leaves blowing in the wind, corn mazes, migrating birds, hunting season, cooling temperatures, more darkness than daylight during the day and the arrival of autumn storms. This is what makes Autumn uniquely different from the other seasons. Hopefully, you've made the best of this nice weather while it was here!
November is election month for some of the two-year term expiring OWA's Board positions. The following (two-year term) board positions are expiring at the end of December 2024 and will be open for nomination or self-nomination for the 2025/2026 term. The individuals presently in the expiring positions of the President (Scott Harvey), Membership Director (Steve Herring) and Secretary (Steve Casper) are term limited out and can't run again for their presently held Board position. The Training Director position is also open. However, Will Brezinski is just finishing up his first term and will run again for this 2-year term position. If you have any inquiries or have some interest in any of the four upcoming open positions, please reach out to me at

Wilderness First Aid training went well at Oxbow Regional Park along the Sandy River this year. We had a good group of about 24 individuals who signed up for a weekend of instructional first aid training with Travis Reed and Matt Millar of Oregon Rescue LLC. The enthusiasm for this training was on full display. Also, the weather for the first weekend of October was perfect for the numerous, hands-on, outdoor training scenarios that took place in the park. We (the club) rented the only group campsite at Oxbow for 3 days and it worked out well for our training needs. With our fingers crossed, hopefully we'll be able to rent this group campsite again next year. The problem is... there is only one group camp site at Oxbow Park and there is very stiff competition for renting this campsite space.
Cheers and Safe Boating,
Scott Harvey, OWA President
