Presidents Corner : May 2026
By Steve Adams
Good day all!
May has always been one of my favorite months in the Northwest as the weather warms up
and the rivers flow high. The first weekend of May, OWA has some 40 members signed up
between Boating 101 training at McIver Park on the Clackamas, and River Safety Training at
Dodge Park. And the weather is looking rather summerish – mid-70’s to upper 80’s! Makes it a
challenge how to dress – warm enough not to shiver in the rivers, yet cool enough not to
overheat on the banks or in your boat. And thanks to everyone who helps organize, lead, or
volunteer at these events; they wouldn’t be possible without you!!
May is also the beginning of rafting season for many of our members, whether you’re on a
private trip or a club sponsored event. With that I’d like to make a plug for writing and
submitting articles about your trip for OWA to add to our (mostly) monthly newsletters. We’re
always looking for trip reports, especially if you’re on an infrequently run river, or something
that many people may not have experienced.
Keep an eye on the calendar and join the fun, and please think of joining us at our next club
meeting, May 13 th at Flying Pie Pizza!
“May” you find your happy place surrounded by whitewater, beautiful scenery, friends &
family, the sun on your face, and peace in your heart!
Happy Rafting!
