Trip Report: North Santiam Photo Story - Oct 2021, flow unknown

A Photo Story from the North Santiam

Submitted by Scott Harvey

Here are some photos of a mid-October fall colors river trip with OWA members on the North Santiam. It was a beautifully warm and sunny fall day with good flows to boot! The Beachie Creek Fire of 2020 left a myriad of scares along the North Santiam River. There were tracts of land untouched, with most of the other areas having a combination of trees and underbrush burnt and other areas completely void of live vegetation. Other casualties include foundations where structures once stood. Yet the rebuilding process of new homes is as busy as ever. One area most notably devastated from the Beachie Creek Fire was the BLM’s Fisherman’s Bend Recreation Site. This is a recreation site many of us have used for years for recreating, camping, fishing, group picnics, safety river training, Boating 101 and as a river take-out site. Some of the following photos below will illustrate the fire destruction at Fisherman’s Bend
