Biography

Gordon Grant is a Research Hydrologist with the USDA Forest Service at the Pacific Northwest Research Station in Corvallis, Oregon, USA, and also Courtesy Professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. His involvement with rivers began as a decade-long career as a whitewater river guide on western US rivers.  He received his Ph.D. in fluvial geomorphology from Johns Hopkins University in 1986, working with M. Gordon (Reds) Wolman, and began work for the research branch of the U.S. Forest Service.  His research focuses on understanding how stream networks, watersheds, and landscapes respond to geomorphic changes due to land use, dams and dam removal, volcanic eruptions, and climate changes in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. He is a Fellow of both the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America, and President of the Earth and Planetary Surface Processes section of AGU.
